Noir Mandira is a structured corset built on black base fabric and mapped entirely in zardozi — gold work laid down in arches, lotuses, and scrolling vines that rise from hem to bust like the interior of a temple ceiling. The sweetheart neckline is framed by twin arching motifs, and the sculptural peplum flares at the waist with the quiet authority of something load-bearing. The winged shoulders sit flat and firm, extending the silhouette into something ceremonial. This is a piece that precedes you into a room.
From the first sketch to the final stitch, Noir Mandira represents an estimated 52 hours of human attention. The design begins on paper — arches drawn, motifs balanced, the geometry of a temple translated into something a body can hold. The black fabric is then cut with the pattern traced upon it in chalk, each panel fitted to the boning structure beneath. Then the zardozi begins: gold thread coiled and couched, mirror pieces set one by one into their placements, the lotus at the peplum's centre taking nearly two full days on its own. The corset is then structured, boned, and finished by hand — every edge bound, every seam considered.
